Philippine Marine Corps RPG Cage
Date Updated: March 23, 2005

In order to improve the survivability of Marine
and Army armored units, the Philippine Marines has designed and built a mesh
system designed to detonate RPG rounds away from the main armor.  By
detonating it before the round strikes the main armor, the effect of the molten
jet generated by the RPG shaped charge is dissipated.  At least that is the
plan, the Marines are currently waiting on the delivery of sample RPG rounds
from GHQ AFP to enable them to conduct destructive testing to test the
effectiveness of the screens and redesign if required.

The system is similar to that already developed and deployed by the US Army on
their Stryker Armored vehicles.

The RPG Cage system has been discussed extensively in the AFP Forum.
